WiZiQ Server Down = No Free Lesson

As we say in German:

Verlass dich auf andere und Du bist verlassen.

Rely on others and you are lost.

The first Free German Lesson of Deutsch Happen was planed for quite a while now. I told everybody who follows me about it but in the end, it all was useless because the servers of wiziq.com, who host the virtual classroom, were down.

I don’t know if this happened because of the huge demand of you all. If this was the reason, thank you all for your interest.

Well, I contacted the guys there and as soon as I have news for you, I will let you know.

I am really sorry and angry about this. So lets hope, this won’t happen again next week.

Bis bald,

Kirsten

Online Dictionary: leo.org

Ok, my first suggestion is a tool I personally use every day.

It is the online dictionary leo.org.

So, why is it better than other online dictionaries? Because it is living. leo.org isn’t just a static side, there is a huge community which is with its discussions and suggestions part of the dictionary.

If you won’t find a word in the regular search there will surely be a discussion in the forum where native speakers give the answers to all of your questions. For free, of course.

And if you open an account, which is not necessary to use the translation tool, you will have access to another great feature: the vocabulary drill. This way you are able to design your own lists or use lists from other users to train your vocabulary skills.

All in all a great tool. Check it out!

Deutsch Happen Review: the german Alphabet, das deutsche Alphabet

Time for a little review of one of my first video lessons on Deutsch Happen: the Alphabet.

It’s a very essential and important lesson if you want to speak german correctly. Even though most european languages use the latin alphabet, the pronunciation of the letters is different. So listening to the alphabet is the first step to get an idea for the german language. Continue reading

To-Do-List for this week

This is my to-do-list for this week for Deutsch Happen:

  1. Finish the design of the new blog.
  2. Finish moving the Deutsch Happen videos to blip.tv
  3. Finish the Video lessons about the modal verbs
  4. Filming new versions of the “Umlaut” video lessons

I hope, I will have enough time for this. Probably not, because on thursday I will go to Paris on a language fair. I will return to my home office on sunday, so I will try to do as much as I can up to wednesday. We’ll see ;) .

Bis bald,
Kirsten
